Mosman Park Tragedy

Statement from Jenny Karavolos, Chair on behalf of the Australian Autism Alliance

We are deeply saddened by the tragic events in Mosman Park, Western Australia — a devastating situation that has touched many across our communities. Our thoughts are with everyone affected, particularly those who may be feeling distress, grief or heightened anxiety as news and public discussion continue to unfold.

We acknowledge that this remains an active and ongoing investigation. In this moment, we choose to stand in compassion and solidarity with the autism community who may be struggling right now, affirming the dignity, humanity and inherent worth of Autistic people and their families.

We recognise that public conversations following tragic events can sometimes feel overwhelming or harmful, especially when they risk reinforcing stereotypes or misunderstandings about autism. We encourage respectful, strengths-based and neuro-affirming dialogue that centres care, connection and community.
